APPROACH
I use a personalized approach to therapy, tailoring my methods to meet the specific needs of each individual. I draw from a diverse skill set gained through extensive clinical experience in private practice, community mental health clinics, college counseling, hospitals, and Veterans Affairs.
My multicultural and global background allows me to understand the unique perspectives of my clients and provide a holistic approach to their wellbeing. Growing up as a Persian in Southern Africa instilled a deep appreciation for diversity, belonging, and connection, which I bring into therapy. Working at the World Health Organization (WHO) in Switzerland gave me a global and holistic perspective on mental health. In therapy, you can expect me to be warm, genuine, empowering, knowledgeable, your biggest advocate, and appropriately challenging as you work toward your goals.
I love working with individuals across the lifespan, including couples and families. My clinical expertise is in the treatment of trauma, depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), behavioral issues, low self-esteem and confidence, life transitions, and grief.
Cultural humility permeates my approach and I work from a psychodynamic and relational lens, which means I prioritize building a strong and secure therapeutic relationship, through which insight, awareness, and lasting change can occur. I'll help you explore the impact of childhood and the ways it might be showing up in your adult life. I also incorporate relaxation, meditation, interpersonal, and coping skills (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) to help alleviate and manage current symptoms and distress.
In my work with children and teens, I'm attuned to this unique period in life as they navigate the complexities of development and emotional growth. I use a developmentally sensitive approach and provide a compassionate and nurturing environment in which they can express themselves and explore their feelings. For young children, I utilize play therapy, and I often employ cognitive behavioral strategies for older children and teens, helping them foster resilience, promoting healthy coping strategies, and empowering them to thrive in all aspects of their lives. I also collaborate closely with caregivers to provide comprehensive support and equip them with strategies to better understand and meet their child's needs.
My priority is for therapy to be most beneficial for you, and a big part of this is finding someone who makes you feel safe and understood, therefore, please reach out for a free phone consult to know if I'll be a good fit for your journey.
